Parenting Styles and Decision Making

Introduces the Brillianaire Parenting Workshop Program and its goals for parents. Brainstorming and prioritizing are explained and then used to identify effective qualities of parents. The need for good role modeling is emphasized. Several strategies for decision making and problem solving are introduced.

Children Need Families

Promotes the acceptance of a broader definition of the “family.” Identifies children’s needs and explores ways parents can meet these needs. Participants learn about the concepts of resiliency and asset development, and explore ways to raise resilient children.

Listening and Responding to Children

Emphasizes the importance of good communication skills in developing a close, positive relationship with your child. Explores ways of listening and responding that may improve communication.

Communicating with Teachers

Emphasizes the importance of good communication between home and school. Parents discuss ways in which they can become involved in the education of their child and identify topics that they should discuss with their child’s teacher. Reinforces the importance of listening and responding in an informative and sensitive manner and explores different communication styles.

Love is a Powerful Vitamin

Promotes the understanding of the power of love in a child’s life. Activities include identifying ways to show love to children, sharing reasons why each participant’s child is lovable, and discussing adults’ need for love. Includes a discussion of a destructive situation in which a parent seems overwhelmed and unable to show love toward the children.

Character, Conscience, and Values

Focuses on the role of family values in the development of a child’s character. Activities include the definition and formation of values, and ways parents can communicate their values to their children. Participants discuss how to handle common scenarios involving choices based on values.

Fostering Self-esteem

Focuses on self-esteem and its importance in developing healthy children. Parents have an opportunity to look at their own self-esteem and discuss ways to foster positive self-esteem.

Encouraging Emotional Growth

Helps parents to understand that children feel a full range of emotions. Parents learn to teach their children appropriate and acceptable ways to express their feelings.

Coping with Daily Stress & Frustrations

Participants identify causes of stress in their daily lives and positive ways to cope with frustration. Develops strategies for helping children deal with stress. Helps participants identify responses to stressful situations.

Brain Development and Learning Styles

Parents become acquainted with brain growth and development. Identifies and explores learning styles, and discovers how they can create stimulating learning experiences for their young ones.

Guiding Your Child's Behavior: Positive Discipline

Examines the things that motivate children’s behaviors, both negative and positive. Identifies strategies for encouraging healthy, appropriate behaviors in children, as well as those that encourage children to develop self-discipline.

Sibling Rivalry

Looks at some of the causes of sibling rivalry and examines ways for parents to help children resolve conflicts. Identifies some of the positive rewards of being a sibling.

Balancing Work and Family Life

Discusses the challenges that working parents may have in “doing it all.” Parents develop strategies for managing their work and home life and the stress that accompanies this balancing act.

Helping Your Child Succeed in School

Identifies positive ways parents can become more involved in their child’s school experience. Analyzes their children’s present use of non-school time and explore ways to link their home and school experiences. Identifies and discusses effective steps that parents can take to develop relationships with the teacher and child to ensure academic success.

Developing Respect and Caring in Young Children

Assists parents with easy-to-use ideas for developing a relationship of mutual respect as well as building these character traits in their children. Parents also identify a personal sense of what respect and caring mean to them.
